Another busy day

Started this morning fixing the roller furling, while I was doing that one of the neighbours came by. He was waiting for a part from the Perkins distributor in Orange Park (about 12 km. from here). I offered to give him a ride, this was probably one of the last times I can give someone a ride, soon I might be needing an incidental ride from others. So it made sense to do my part while I still could. It came with a free cup of coffee, and I even got $5 of gas. I needed that, the tank was almost empty and I am going to sell with the minimum amount of gas in there.

Back at the boat I finished putting in a pennant between the sail and the swivel. Took a few attempts to get the length about right, but the jib is now furled up. Still needs finishing, worked on it till I could furl it right and moved on. Need to make a final pennant that is cut at length, right now the spare length of rope is wrapping around the jib.

The dinghy seller called me, and he had already brought it to the marina. He told me to have a look and he would be there around lunch time. Indeed it was folded up very compact. I got my measuring tape out and it was going to fit. The dinghy was in great condition, supposedly it was only used on one trip, and it really looked like that. Now, I have heard people say to stay away from Zodiac dinghies (they are PVC). But, this ones dimensions are right, and a fair price (was able to negotiate some under the asking price too). He will bring the paper work tomorrow when we will finalize the transaction, but the dinghy is already where I want it.

I took the live raft cradle off, off course that wasn’t that easy. One bolt was not coming loose, so I had to saw through it. While attempting to get the bolt loose I felt something snap in my left shoulder, think I pulled a muscle, or something jumped out of its place. It only hurts when I make specific move, so I will just work around that. Today the body has been hurting, my cycling legs don’t really help much with all the pulling ropes and sawing stuff. Saved the life raft’s cradle in a locker for the time being, it is stainless steel, so I am sure it is expensive and I might want to put it to use one day.

Brought the old dinghy to the dumpster, including my unnamed passenger, a lizard.

I had seen it yesterday while I was measuring but did not feel like trying to catch it. I think it must have liked the warmth in the dinghy because of its black bottom. Luckily he stayed put on the dinghy when I put it on the dock, so I am back just by myself on board. Now that the old dinghy is gone, I can use the floor boards (that I have been holding on to) for some other wood working projects.

Was listening to the radio news today, and they were talking about YouTube (which apparently just got bought by Google). That reminded me of a move that Kenny Bellau had posted, part of it is a lap behind me (filmed from a camera mounted on Kennies handlebar) during the state criterium championship in Denham Springs, check it out here. Thanks Kenny.

Went by a second hand car dealer ship this afternoon, they haggled a lot (as to be expected), but they did me an offer on the car. Tomorrow morning I am going to drive around and see if I can find someone to beat that, and if not I will go back there and sell it.

After dark I finally got back to the bike, moved the fork mount more to the side and think I like it. Should not be bumping with my legs against handle bars again tonight.

Sleeping with the bike, eh? We should have guessed.

Is this the bow or stern?

V-birth is in the bow, almost all the way forward (the only thing in front of the v-birth is the anchor locker). Guess I need to add some plans of the boat on the site.
