Honiara

So I have been in Honiara for a half week now.  The yacht club is nice, it is one of those `members only’ places, but, if you come in a yacht, you are automatically a member.  And the good thing is, this is not an `expats only’ place.  So I have come to chat a lot with the locals.  And they serve an affordable and good lunch. And they take their pool game very serious, it is a pool table, American size, but the balls are the smaller type (similar to snooker size).  No number solids or stripes, but yellow and red, and than one black ball.  To play you put your name on the board, and pay $5 (about 70 US$ cent) at the bar.  Have not shot a good game yet, but it is good fun.Honiara is a very busy city, a lot of people on the streets, probably because very few have a car.  Traffic is mostly busy with taxi’s and mini-buses.  There are not many paved roads on the island.  I was talking to a local who lives elsewhere on the island, but only 1/4 of the way to his town is paved, the next 1/4 is dirt road, and the last half there is no road at all.  So for most long distance travel people go on boats. So, at  least a bit of an impression of the Solomon Islands. Have been doing small boat projects (the genoa and stay sail also need fixing), put the dinghy in the water (after two nights in a row getting soaked in the kayak because of the swell on the beach landing).  And have been filling up the water tanks.Might be spending quite some time here, the package with the electronics parts has not been shipped yet (due to some complications in shipping to the Solomons).
