From bad to worse

Just when I was physically starting to feel better, and had been able to cash the damages check into cash, I came back to the boat last night at 20:30 and the whole interior was a complete mess.  My first naive reaction was: we did not get any big swells tonight, untill it dawned on me: the boat had been broken into.  Well, the short way of describing it is this: they took everything except: my passport, the camera (they missed it since it was in a bag), my dirty underwear, some warm clothes and the food.  Everything else is gone, gone, gone.  So, I am now not able to leave for the simple reason that I have not charts and no radio.  I had only been away from the boat for three hours, all that time I was in the yacht club, from where you can see the mast of the vessels, but not the boats themselves.  The view gets blocked by the Police boats jetty.  There were people on the boats next to me, though, my immidiate neighbor had left just that morning.

Physically I am doing okay, mentally I am hanging in there.

Police report has been filed, even had the CID guys on the boat last night (but they did not find any fingerprints).

Originally I was hoping to leave on Monday for Gizo.  But I am not leaving without at least a VHF radio and some form of navigational charts (I had all charts on the computer, and on external hard disks, and on DVDs, all stolen). We’ll see what develops.

Some of the fiberglass material for the repairs was stolen as well.  But the cash for the repairs were hidden well enough not to get stolen.

Frank, sounds like your having a run of bad luck. Things will make a turn for the better, you just have to ride out this bad cycle. If you can think of any way I might be of some help please let me know. I just finished reading an article in the Feb. addition of Cruising World magazine about an American women that completed circumnavigation onboard a Southern Cross 28.

Goodluck, Fair Weather, and Smooth Sailing

    Don
