The notebook that Mike from S/V Tristan gave to me in Gizo was on its last legs.
Lately the display started to flash and weaken after a minute of use, and yesterday the display decided it had enough. I had already been looking at notebooks here in the SM mall. Today I went and bought an Asus-Eeepc 900. It is one of those tiny computers with solid state memory in stead of a hard disk. The keyboard is so small, it takes time to get used to, but I have an external keyboard on the boat. Still need to put together a cable to hook it up to the boat’s batteries, but the computer runs on 12V so no converter needed.
Next few days I will be busy installing everything.
Cool, Frank. Is that the Linux version? Let us know how it works out.
It is the XP version. Would have loved to have linux as well, but I need XP for the electronics charts. I am hoping to make it multi-boot.
So far it has worked well. Right now I am installing drivers for all my USB devices.
