Engine repairs in action

Had a walk around town visting hard ware shops looking for a fuel lift pump and or a diesel mechanic. No luck with either. After lunch I went back to the boat to try a few things myself.

One possible problem is that the fuel pump is not strong enough, the reason I suspect that is that I took the fuel return line off and there was no diesel coming out (there should always be some diesel coming out because the lift pump needs to pump an excess of fuel, the injectors only inject the exact amounds needed, the rest is returned to the fuel tank). Now, there is a small filter in thefuel lift pump, and it looked dirty, but I have no spares for that. So I decided to do without that filter (in theory there is a risk of pump damage, but the fuel lift pump gets its diesel through the primary racor filter).

Also had a look at the leak around injector #1. This was a lot of work because I had to take the cyclinder head cover off, and all the fuel injector fuel lines. Finally got access to the injector, took it out, cleaned it and put it back in as tight as possible.

Then I went for a test run and I was really happy the way the engine was running. It reacted to the throttle immediately, never any hesitation in RPMs, has not run like this since Panama. Then when I finished anchoring I still saw small bubbles around injector #1. So, even though it runs well, not all problems are solved. Not sure what the next step will be. Went into town again looking for a new filter for the fuel pump (no luck) and a proper size 27mm deep socket wrench (no luck either).

Was going to check out this afternoon but I forgot my paperwork. Might leave tomorrow if the forecast is fine.
