In Key West

This morning I paid a visit to the customs office.  It is close by the dinghy dock, which is about a 10 minute dinghy ride across the channel for me.

The customs official explained to me that I can not get customs clearance to leave for Cuba (since the US does not recognize the Cuban government).  But, since this is the first foreign travel of the boat, I have to `export’ the boat.  To do that I need to depart for some other place (Bahamas, Mexico).  I will need to do that just before I leave.  Right now, it looks like the next weather window will not appear before next Tuesday/Wednesday.  I will than go by customs and get my clearance, I think I will put Kingston, Jamaica as my destination.  I plan on going there anyway, I might just get delayed on the way over there.

A message for Franks desk passengers: Franks laptop has had some trouble with Neptunus, so he could not check his mail at the moment. I hope to meet Frank next Saturday in Varadero, Cuba. The weather forecast seems to be good. Muy bien! Maria
