Plans to sail

After a weekend of unsuccessfull outboard repairs and given the fact that you can’t get Honda parts on the island I bit the bullet and bought a new outboard yesterday.

The dingy also needed some patching, I hope that my repair has some lifetime in it.

Plan if to do the checkout formalities today and to sail tomorrow afternoon to Bonaire.

That will always be an upwind sail, but the forecast is for about 15 knots of wind, which is about as little as it gets.

Back on board

Arrived Saturday night, climbed the fence to get in, and on board we were.

Smell indicated something with the brown water tank was amiss.

Engine wouldn’t start because the only thing the starter motor did was give a simple click sound.

Brown water tank was just over full. After some pumping away and a lot of airing out that should be fine.

Start motor had to be in an inaccessible spot. Didn’t get much further than getting the cover off. Tried again next day, this time with some light tapping on the side and a splash of WD40 and a miracle happened: it turned over.

So, we are on schedule, if there was one.

Already have two sails on as well.

Back to sailing

Yesterday at five the riggers finished the installation of the new fore stay.
In the evening the mechanic got my outboard running.

Bought new halyard, gib sheets and furling line.

So, we are ready to go sailing, finally.
